Ross Island: Boat from Aberdeen Jetty to the old British administrative capital, abandoned after the 1941 earthquake and now ruins held together by banyan roots, with deer wandering through.

North Bay: On to the coral shelf for the glass-bottom boat. Snorkelling, sea walk and scuba operate here and are paid on site.

Evening: Free in Port Blair. Aberdeen Bazaar for shell and wood craft.

• Top Places to Cover: Ross Island, North Bay, the lighthouse, Aberdeen Bazaar.
• Importance of Each Place: North Bay is the most accessible coral in the islands, and the lighthouse view here appeared on the older twenty-rupee note.
• Things to Know: Whether North Bay water activities run is decided by sea conditions that morning. There is no jetty at Ross - you step onto rock.

Meals: Breakfast | Overnight: Port Blair

The Crossing: Early cruise from Haddo Wharf, about 90 minutes.

Radhanagar: The afternoon here. A wide white arc backed by protected mahua forest, named Asia best beach by TIME in 2004. The light after four is what people come for.

Evening: Stay for the sunset before heading back to your hotel.

• Top Places to Cover: Radhanagar Beach, Havelock jetty, Govind Nagar.
• Importance of Each Place: The forest behind Radhanagar has been deliberately left undeveloped, which is the reason it still looks the way it did twenty years ago.
• Things to Know: Swim within the flagged zone. Carry water - there is nothing for sale on the beach itself.

Meals: Breakfast | Overnight: Havelock

Morning Ferry: Back to Port Blair and straight to the airport.

Timing Matters: The ferry has to land before you can check in, and there is no margin for a delayed sailing.

• Top Places to Cover: Havelock jetty, Port Blair, IXZ airport.
• Things to Know: Book your departure flight for no earlier than mid-afternoon. Where a sailing is cancelled for weather we will rebook at the earliest slot, but missed flight costs are the traveller responsibility.
