A winter trek with an unusually good view for the effort involved. This Brahmatal trek climbs a ridge at 12,250 ft looking straight across at Trishul and Nanda Ghunti, close enough to pick out the ridgelines.

Snow lies from late December through March, and the walking is moderate rather than punishing.

What makes this Brahmatal trek different

  • Trishul and Nanda Ghunti head-on — one of the best peak views for a moderate trek anywhere.
  • Two lakes on the route — Bekaltal and Brahmatal, both frozen in season.
  • Buffer day included — for weather, as every winter Himalayan trek should have.
  • Thick oak and rhododendron forest — shaded and sheltered on the lower half.
  • Genuine winter conditions — without the technical demands of a higher peak.

Who this trip suits

Beginners with reasonable fitness who want a winter trek. Moderate gradient throughout and no exposed ridge sections.

A note on seasons

December to March is the winter season and the reason most people choose Brahmatal – snow from Bekaltal upward. April to June gives green forest and rhododendron with easier walking. Not operated during the July to September monsoon.
