The trek most Indian trekkers put at the top of their list, and it earns that. Roughly 70 km from Sonamarg to Naranag, crossing four passes and dropping onto a different alpine lake almost every day.

This Kashmir Great Lakes trek takes in Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and the twin Gangbal and Nundkol beneath Harmukh. It is a long trek at sustained altitude and it is not a beginner route.

What makes this Kashmir Great Lakes trek different

  • Six alpine lakes — more high-altitude lakes than any other trek in India.
  • Four pass crossings — the highest at Gadsar, 13,750 ft.
  • Camping beside the water — at Vishansar and Gangbal, not an hour away.
  • Certified leader and oxygen — carried by the team throughout.
  • Honest about the grade — this is not a first trek, and we will say so if you ask.

Who this trip suits

Experienced trekkers with prior high-altitude days behind them. Roughly 70 km over six walking days, with one ten-hour stage. Original photo ID is mandatory; army posts verify every trekker by name.

A note on seasons

Early July to mid-September is the entire season. Snow blocks the passes outside it and the meadows are under drifts. July gives wildflowers at their peak, August the most stable weather, and early September the clearest air with colder nights.
