Lakes first, wildlife second. This Nainital Jim Corbett tour package gives two nights beside Naini Lake for the ridge viewpoints and the smaller lakes around it, then drops to Corbett for a morning safari when the animals are actually moving.

Corbett is India oldest national park and the zone you are allotted matters far more than the lodge you book. We have written that down rather than leaving you to discover it.

What makes this Nainital Jim Corbett tour package different

  • Two nights at Nainital — so the lake district gets a full day rather than a rushed morning.
  • Safari permit included — with names and ID submitted at booking, which the forest department requires.
  • Morning safari, not afternoon — sighting odds are meaningfully better before the heat.
  • The smaller lakes included — Bhimtal, Sattal and Naukuchiatal, which most itineraries skip entirely.
  • Honest on tigers — we do not promise a sighting, because nobody can.

Who this trip suits

Families, first-time wildlife travellers and weekend groups from Delhi. No trekking, and the only early start is the safari morning.

A note on seasons

October to June, with Corbett core zones typically closed from mid-June to mid-November for the monsoon; Jhirna and Dhela usually stay open year-round. March to May gives the best sighting odds as water sources shrink and animals concentrate. December and January are cold, misty and beautiful with the lowest crowds.

Tour Plan

Day 01 DELHI TO NAINITAL | ARRIVAL & MALL ROAD EVENING

The Drive: Depart Delhi early. Around 300 km and seven to eight hours via Moradabad and Haldwani, with the climb from Kathgodam at the end.

Naini Lake: Nainital is built around a pear-shaped lake ringed by seven hills, and everything in town faces it.

Evening: The Mall Road along the eastern shore, and Naina Devi temple at the northern end - one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where the eyes of Sati are believed to have fallen. Nain means eyes, and the town takes its name from it.

  • Top Places to Cover: Naini Lake, Mall Road, Naina Devi temple, Flatts area.
  • Importance of Each Place: Nainital was found by an English sugar trader in 1841 and grew into the summer capital of the United Provinces. The Mall is still closed to traffic in the evenings.
  • Things to Know: The Kathgodam climb is winding - take motion sickness tablets before starting rather than after. Nights are cold from October onward.

Meals: Dinner | Overnight: Nainital

Day 02 NAINITAL LAKE DAY | SNOW VIEW ROPEWAY & TIFFIN TOP

Morning Boating: On the lake while the water is still. Rowing boats and yachts both operate from the Boat House Club end.

Snow View: The ropeway climbs to 2,270 m, and on a clear day the view runs across to Nanda Devi and Trishul.

Tiffin Top: Also called Dorothy Seat, a short walk or pony ride further on, built by an Englishman in memory of his wife.

Afternoon: Kilbury for birdlife, or the Governor House and Eco Cave Gardens if the weather closes in.

  • Top Places to Cover: Naini Lake, Snow View ropeway, Tiffin Top, Naina Peak, Kilbury, Eco Cave Gardens.
  • Importance of Each Place: Snow View and Naina Peak give the two best Himalayan panoramas accessible without any trekking in Kumaon.
  • Things to Know: Ropeway queues build fast after 10 am - go early. Peak visibility is best on clear mornings between October and December.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner | Overnight: Nainital

Day 03 LAKE DISTRICT & TRANSFER TO CORBETT | BHIMTAL, SATTAL, NAUKUCHIATAL

Bhimtal: Larger than Naini and much quieter, with a small island aquarium at its centre.

Sattal: Seven interconnected lakes under thick oak forest, and one of the best birding sites in the Kumaon foothills - migratory species arrive through winter.

Naukuchiatal: The nine-cornered lake. Local belief holds that anyone who can see all nine corners at once will have a wish granted.

To Corbett: Roughly 65 km down to Ramnagar and check in near the park gates.

  • Top Places to Cover: Bhimtal, Sattal, Naukuchiatal, Ramnagar, Kosi riverbank.
  • Importance of Each Place: Sattal is one of the few remaining unspoiled freshwater biomes in the region and draws serious birdwatchers rather than day-trippers.
  • Things to Know: Carry binoculars for Sattal. The descent to Ramnagar is hot compared to Nainital - pack a lighter layer for the evening.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner | Overnight: Corbett

Day 04 JIM CORBETT JEEP SAFARI | DAWN IN INDIA OLDEST NATIONAL PARK

The Safari: An early morning jeep safari. Bijrani and Jhirna are the usual day zones, allotted by the forest department rather than chosen by you or by us.

What You Will See: Elephant, spotted deer, sambar, gharial in the Ramganga and a long bird list are near-certain. Corbett holds one of the highest tiger densities anywhere, but the forest is dense and sightings are a matter of luck.

Afternoon: Free, or the Corbett Museum at Kaladhungi - Jim Corbett winter home, kept much as he left it.

  • Top Places to Cover: Bijrani or Jhirna zone, Ramganga river, Corbett Museum at Kaladhungi, Garjiya Devi temple.
  • Importance of Each Place: Corbett was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park, the first in India, and renamed in 1957 after the hunter turned conservationist. It became the launch site of Project Tiger in 1973.
  • Things to Know: Zones and vehicles are allotted, not chosen. Permits require full names and ID numbers at booking and cannot be transferred. Wear neutral colours and carry a cap - the open jeep is cold before sunrise and dusty after.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner | Overnight: Corbett

Day 05 RETURN TO DELHI | TRIP CONCLUDES

The Drive Back: Breakfast, then around 250 km and six hours to Delhi.

On the Way: Garjiya Devi temple, built on a rock in the middle of the Kosi, is a five-minute stop just outside Ramnagar.

  • Top Places to Cover: Garjiya Devi temple, Ramnagar, Delhi.
  • Things to Know: Book onward travel for the evening rather than the afternoon; the Moradabad stretch is unpredictable.

Meals: Breakfast | Overnight: Journey ends
